| Description | Kate’s father, Michael Francis Middleton, was born 23 June 1949, the son of Peter Francis Middleton, and Valerie Glassborow, who were married at Leeds, Yorkshire on 7 Dec. 1946. Peter Middleton (born in1920 at Leeds, Yorkshire), a flight instructor, is the son of Richard Noel Middleton and Olive Christiana Lupton. Valerie Glassborow (b. Marseille, France 5 January 1924), died at Andover, Hampshire, on 13 September 2006, and was the daughter of Frederick George Glassborow and Constance Robison. Richard Noel Middleton (called Noel by his family) was a well-to-do solicitor in Leeds, where the Middletons were prominent citizens. His father John was legal counsel for the Leeds Permanent Benefit Building Society. He was president of the Leeds Law Society and founder of the Leeds and County Conservative Club. When John died in 1887 he left a sizeable fortune to his four children. Noel’s wife, Olive Lupton, came from another prominent family in Leeds. Her father Francis managed the family cloth business William Lupton & Co. (founded 1773), growing it into a thriving business that supported the family in comfort. He was also a member of the Leeds city council. Valerie’s father Frederick Glassborow was a bank manager; his ancestors often held positions as bank clerks, shipping managers, and mercantile clerks in various fields.
