    • Statewide registration of death records began in Michigan in 1867. Public Act 194, passed that year, required cities and townships to record births and deaths annually. While the law was in place from 1867, compliance with full death record registration was generally achieved by 1915. Public Act 219 in 1897 further mandated that death records include more detailed information and be issued as certificates.
