Nathan bar Naftali Hertz Sternhartz (1780-1844), also Natan from Bratslav (Breslov), Natan from Nemirov, r. Noson. - a prominent figure in Bratslav Hasidism, one of the closest disciples of r. Nachman.

R. Nathan endeavoured to preserve the teachings of r. Nachman. During Nahman's lifetime, he wrote down his lessons and teachings, and published them before and after Nachman's death. It is known that these lessons were often written in Yiddish, but since Hebrew was considered the language of holiness and scholarship, they were translated.

It is known that Rabbi Natan's family were not supporters of the Hasidic movement. In 1802 Rabbi Nathan joined the movement of Rabbi Nachman (in other sources - in 1803).

The names of some of Rabbi Nathan's children are known: Shachneh, Chana Tzirel, Dovid Zvi, Yitzchok, Yosef Yonah.

Rabbi Nathan died in 1844. He was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Bratslav. His ohel is located there. His grandson David Tzvi Sterngarz (on his son's line - Shachne) is buried next to him.
