Georgia state coat of arms

Georgia began officially recording births in 1919, with earlier records found at the county level. Some counties have birth records dating back to the late 1800s, but these are often incomplete.

Before state registration, churches played a significant role in recording births, especially among Protestant and Baptist congregations. Family Bibles also served as a primary means of documentation.
